Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this postcard, he has depicted a man wearing short robe and carrying a bamboo umbrella, probably a sketch of a monk in Puri. This has been executed in fluid, rhythmic strokes of pen and ink, delineating the form and adding grace to the figure.
