The Trees- I 6727 Nandalal Bose Black & White watercolor on paper

×
This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. These compositions were stripped to the bare minimum where only a few strokes of ink were employed to create natural forms in an effortless approach. The above sketch belongs to the ‘The Trees - I’ series. In this sketch he has executed two figures walking against a barren tree, with a range of strokes in tonal variations capturing the rhythm and pattern in the image.
