The Trees- I 6735 Nandalal Bose Black & white watercolour on paper

×
This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'Bamboo Trees' executed from his memory and experiences. In the above painting the winds blow the trees away and a majestic moon appears from within the heavy branches of the trees, the placement of the moon behind the trees give the composition a surreal quality. This painting was purchased from the collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose, children of Nandalal Bose.
