The Trees- I 6736 Nandalal Bose Black & white watercolour on paper

×
This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'Bamboo Trees' executed from his memory and experiences. A thick dark horizontal line across the painting used to create a sense of landscape cuts through the strong vertical that is created by the jarred up branches of the trees. This painting was purchased from the collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose, children of Nandalal Bose.
