This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being, 'The Trees - II' executed from his memory and experiences. Each of these spontaneous creations were livened up by the strokes that seemingly move in a rhythmic fashion to create several natural forms. Nandalal has here depicted the trees with delicate lines along with the suggestion of two human figures standing beneath them. This painting was purchased from the collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose, children of Nandalal Bose.
