This painting belongs to a series of monochromatic ink and watercolour paintings inspired by the Sumi-e Japanese technique the artist employed in the last phase of his life. The subject here being 'The Waves' executed from his memory and experiences. Nandalal in this composition has used a succession of short diagonal strokes in a cluster, evoking a sense of swaying movement in water. This painting was purchased from collection of Shri Biswaroop Bose and Smt. Nivedita Bose.
