Nandalal had a firm belief that for the creation of art an intimate understanding of nature and its way is imperative. He made instantaneous visual records of anything amusing happening in his surroundings, the subjects being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings, animals. In this pen and ink drawing the fluid handling of the lines has resulted in the realistic representation of a fish. He has meticulously captured the details in fine pen strokes emphasizing on its structure and nimbleness.
