Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching and drawing, instantly recording in the postcard sized papers his subjects from the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. The above monochrome illustration by the artist is a realistic study of a female coiffure, along with is a sketch of a woman in profile highlighting her hair. The composition is rendered with stark, continuous ink strokes although the handling is both fluid and firm.
