The above monochrome illustration by Nandalal depicts goddess kali, flying while her legs are stretched in opposite directions. In this composition she is bejeweled, adorned with skulls and her halo resembles fire. The composition is rendered extensively with bold, linear pencil strokes delineating the contours and suggesting the demeanour of the subject.
