Nandalal's exploration of the different ways of delineating a line allowed him to experiment in the representation of its varying forms. In the above monochrome sketch, Nandalal has depicted a group of women carrying baskets on their heads, walking along the trees. The figures are rendered with soft, fluid pencil strokes delineating the basic contours and suggesting the demeanour of the subjects, sparing much detail.
