Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings and animals. In this postcard sketch, he has depicted a flight of birds creating a pattern in a vast expanse of the sky. The sketch has been rendered with pen strokes in a minimalistic manner that suggest the corporeality of the forms and add life and rhythm to the composition.
