    Nandalal Bose

Sketch from Drawing Book No. 23 9881 Nandalal Bose Charcoal & pencil on paper

×
Nandalal's exploration of the different ways of delineating a line allowed him to experiment in the representation of its varying forms adding rhythm, vigour and life to the form of his figures. In this postcard sketch, he has depicted the banks of a river with a boat in the distance and women walking past with pitchers on their heads in the foreground. The artist has employed the combined tonal variations of pencil and textural properties of charcoal to suggest the light and depth in the composition.
