Nandalal has, in this monochromatic drawing, emphasised the use of lines for precise and recognisable variations. In this sketch he reproduces an elephant, being ridden by a group of people, rendered in fine, calligraphic strokes, defining the contours of the animal. The light shading and swift strokes accentuates the folds of its skin, adding life to the form.
