Nandalal had a firm belief that for the creation of art an intimate understanding of nature and its ways is imperative. In this first sketch of a series of seven sketches of birds in the album, Nandalal reproduces a line drawing of a pigeon. The subject, executed quickly in wiry outlines and long, sharp strokes, is essentially a study in form.
