Nandalal fervently sketched the environs of Santiniketan in Bengal and keenly recorded aspects of rural life from the region. In this first sketch of a series of eleven sketches of roosters and hens, Nandalal has depicted a rooster, a smooth rendition in loose yet swift strokes, sparing much detail.
