Nandalal's smaller sketches are testimony of his keen observation and empathy for the environment in which he lived. In this second sketch of a series of eleven sketches of roosters and hens in the album, Nandalal depicts a rooster, roughly rendered in dark contouring lines, coarse in character. The strong curvilinear strokes define the plumage and the long tail adding vitality to the form.
