Nandalal would make numerous sketches of aspects of the local environs on his travels. This first sketch of a series of eleven sketches of aquatic life in the album, depicts Gangdhara Machh, a freshwater fish abundantly found in Bengal. He renders the fish in fine lines, defining the contours of its slender body. Nandalal also sketches the top of the fish's head in a smaller template.
