Sketch Book No. 5 10391 Nandalal Bose Pencil on paper

×
Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. The artist understood the significance of the use of lines and experimented frequently in their execution from fine lines to being thick contouring lines. He has here rendered the sketch of a warrior, holding a spear in his hand and dressed in attire traditional to the Far Eastern cultures. The fluid handling of the line and the dark pencil strokes, suggest the modelling of the body and the facial features.
