Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. The sketch portrays a woman dressed in attire traditional to the Far Eastern cultures. The fluid handling of the line and the dark pencil strokes suggest the modelling of the body and facial features in an impressionistic manner.
