Nandalal in his pencil sketches has experimented with the representation of lines to attain texture and add vigour and life to the form of the figure. The sketch portrays a man in a seated position, probably a warrior or a royal figure. Dressed in a traditional outfit, he carries a sword in his left hand, suggesting an influence from the Far Eastern cultures. The fluid handling of the lines suggests the modelling of the body and the facial features, adding expression and grace to the form.
