Nandalal here sketches a hilly landscape, a simple line drawing defining the contours of the organic forms, swiftly rendered with blunt pencil strokes sparing much detail. As the inscription suggests, this drawing has been sketched on the way from Khandwa(Nimar) to Mhow(Indore), two cities of present day Madhya Pradesh, during Nandalal's visit to the Bagh caves, a group of rock-cut architectural monuments.
