In this sketch, Nandalal has reduced the form of a building to a simple line drawing quickly rendered with a few strokes, sparing any details. The blunt texture of the pencil gives a impressionistic touch. As per the inscription, this drawing has been sketched during his 1921 visit to the Bagh caves, a group of rock-cut architectural monuments, in present-day Madhya Pradesh, India.
