Nandalal had a strong fascination for sketching nature, especially veteran trees that had some kind of spiritual significance. In this rough sketch he depicts a group of trees, their branches intertwined, in a cluster of wiry contouring lines while the coarse shading brings out the rugged texture of the tree trunk.
