In the sketch above Nandalal reproduces a village settlement rendered in dark, blunt outlines. The light and dark shading, a play of chiaroscuro, brings out the depth in the landscape. As per the inscription, this drawing was sketched at Patisar, a village in present-day Bangladesh, where the Tagore family's zamindari was headquartered.
