Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch he has depicted several earthen pots and vessels he encountered at the ancient Buddhist site of Sarnath. The illustration is rendered with long, loose strokes of the pencil, articulating the basic contours of the forms.
