Nandalal, in his sketches, experimented with the representation of lines to attain texture and add vigour and life to the form of his figures. This postcard sketch by Nandalal is a quick rendition of a boatman, as the inscription suggest. It has been swiftly executed in loose, brisk pencil strokes that suggest the modelling of the form and highlight the facial features of the figure.
