Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a carpenter working as the inscription suggest. He has rendered the subject in fluid, bold strokes of the pencil, suggesting the modelling of the form and resulting in a realistic representation of a scene.
