Nandalal preferred drawing from life, often sketching outdoors with the subject being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings and animals. In this sketch, he portrays a hut surrounded by trees. Nandalal employs flat brushstrokes, bold outlines and dabs and dashes of thick black colour to define the various forms. The play of light and shade adds life and vitality to the subject.
