Nandalal had a firm belief that for the creation of art an intimate understanding of nature and its way is imperative. He made instantaneous visual records of anything amusing happening in his surroundings, the subjects being life, nature studies, landscapes, figure drawings, animals. In this drawing, Nandalal has depicted a fish in watercolour patches to bring out the subject from the background without demarcating any lines. He has meticulously captured the details in fine brush strokes, emphasizing on its structure.
