Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In this sketch, he has depicted a group of villagers walking along a path as they carry a heavy load between them, rendered with fluid, fine lines of pen and ink delineating the contours of the figures and suggesting the demeanour of the subjects.
