Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In the above sketch the artist has depicted a hound as suggested in the inscription. The composition is rendered with linear, fluid yet firm pencil strokes delineating the basic contours and suggesting the demeanour of the subject.
