Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In the above sketch the artist has depicted an archer, from the Sanchi Stupa, as suggested in the inscription. The composition is executed with linear, fluid pencil strokes delineating the basic contour and suggesting the demeanour of the subject.
