Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. The above sketch by the artist, is a perceptible representation of a man and a woman in a combat with swords and shields. The composition is rendered with thick, fluid yet firm pencil strokes articulating the contours of the form and suggesting the demeanour of the subject.
