Nandalal had a strong affinity for sketching, his subjects being the surrounding environs, people in their everyday life or anything that he found fascinating. In the above monochrome illustration the artist has depicted an elephant in movement, with two riders sitting on his back. The delicate sketch is rendered with fine, continuous pencil strokes delineating the basic contours and suggesting the demeanour of the forms.
