Nandalal is known to have fervently sketched on postcard sized papers mostly using ink and brush, recording his surroundings. In the above illustration the artist depicts probably Gautam Buddha in lalitasana surrounded with his attendants. The composition is rendered with thick, continuous pencil strokes delineating the basic contours and suggesting the demeanour of the subjects, sparing much detail.
