In this card, Nandalal sketches an anatomical line drawing of Pulakesi, a monarch of the Chalukya dynasty in the 6th century A.D. It is a quick rendition of the king in a relaxed pose. As the inscription suggests, the image has been reproduced from part of a mural in cave no. 1 of the Ajanta caves.
