Nandalal has here studied the figure of an attendant, holding a water pot over his shoulder. The stiff form is roughly rendered in linear strokes, sparing the sketch of much detail. The drawing is reproduced from part of the 'Mahajanaka Jataka' mural from cave no. 1 of the Ajanta caves. This particular scene depicts the ritual of lustration being performed on Prince Mahajanaka, who is served by palace attendants at his royal toilet.
