Nandalal has here studied the posture of a seated male figure, probably a Buddha as he assumes the dharmachakra pravartana mudra, the gesture of preaching, usually interpreted as setting the wheel of law in motion. The sketch has been rendered in bold flowing lines, accentuating the slender body beneath the robe, from cave no. 1 of the Ajanta caves.
