In the image above, Nandalal studies the stance of a dancer, part of the story of the Mahajanaka Jataka etched from cave no. 1 of the Ajanta caves. The sketch is rendered in smooth flowing lines, accentuating the graceful movement of the slender body. This particular scene of the mural depicts a show of dance and music arranged by Sivali (Mahajanaka's wife), in an attempt to keep him tied to worldly life.
