Nandalal has here sketched a male figure, standing by a pillar. With features such as the wavy hair and lotus-like eyes, the figure is probably the Bodhisattva Padmapani, gestured to hold a padma (lotus) flower in his right hand. The artist has rendered the form in deep, fluid lines, reproducing it from a mural from cave no. 1 of the Ajanta caves.
