    Nandalal Bose

Sketch from Sketch Book No.22 - Ajanta Sketches 10957 Nandalal Bose Pencil on paper

×
Nandalal has here studied the stance of a female figure with a distinctive headdress. The woman, probably a royal figure as suggested by her richly ornamented attire, stands beside a pillar. Rendered in quick strokes, the bold contouring lines define the voluptuous form. As the inscription suggests, the drawing has been reproduced from part of a mural from cave no. 1 of the Ajanta caves.
