    Nandalal Bose

Sketch from Sketch Book No.22 - Ajanta Sketches 10963 Nandalal Bose Pencil on paper

Nanadalal has here studied the posture of a male figure as he sits cross-legged on the floor, a rough rendition in dark, bold outlines, defining the contours of the form. The figure seems enraptured by the performance of the snake, at the court of Ugrasena, king of Varanasi, sketched from the panel 'Story of a serpent king: Champeyya Jataka', from cave no. 1 of the Ajanta caves.
