Nandalal has here studied the posture of a man sitting and pondering. The sketch is loosely rendered in repetitive strokes, delineating the contours with fine lines. As per the inscription, this figure of Ugrasen, King of Varanasi has been reproduced from part of the mural that depicts the 'Champeyya Jataka', from cave no.1 of the Ajanta caves. Ugrasena is here listening attentively as King Champeyya initiates him into the mysteries of the faith.
