Nandalal has here studied the posture of a male figure, squatting on the floor. Rendered in fine, swift strokes, the drawing is spared of much detail. The image has been reproduced from part of the the mural that depicts the 'Champeyya Jataka' from cave no.1 of the Ajanta caves. This particular scene shows King Ugrasena of Varanasi, along with his courtiers, watching the performance of the captive Serpent King, Champeyya with great interest.
