Nandalal has here studied the posture of a royal figure seated on a throne in Lalit-asana, rendered in bold, lyrical outlines, defining the contours of his form. The drawing has been sketched from a mural from cave no. 1 of the Ajanta caves. The mural depicts a king and a queen in conversation, surrounded by the queen's retinue.
