Nandalal has here sketched a line drawing of a serpent king, Varuna, rendered in deep flowing lines from cave no. 2 of the Ajanta caves. The mural depicts an assemblage of his chiefs, Varuna, his kinsmen, friends and acquaintances, whom he is consulting about the proposal of Purnaka, The gesture of the right hand of Varuna, suggests that he is faced with a dilemma, and is telling Purnaka to wait, 'for a business done without consultation leads afterwards to regret'.
