Nandalal has here studied a richly ornamented female figure, perhaps the queen Maya, sketched from part of the mural relating to the birth of Buddha from cave no. 2 of the Ajanta caves. He renders her elegant stance in deep, bold flowing lines, accentuating the contours of the body.
