Nandalal has observed the stance of a royal couple in this sketch. Reproduced from part of the panel 'The birth of Buddha' from cave no. 2 of the Ajanta caves, the figures are rendered in swift, fluid strokes. A prince has here amorously placed his hand on the breast of his consort while his other hand offers her a cup of wine (not depicted in the drawing). The artist has focused more on the study of postures and gestures, sparing the sketch of much detail.
