Nandalal has here studied the stance of a female figure in profile. As the inscription suggests, the sketch has been reproduced from the panel 'Votaries Bringing Offerings', from cave no. 2 of the Ajanta caves. The above composition is part of the mural depicting a group of female figures with elaborately decorated coiffures, observed in various stances.
