    Nandalal Bose

Sketch from Sketch Book No.22 - Ajanta Sketches 11013 Nandalal Bose Pencil on paper

×
Nandalal has here studied the posture of a male figure sitting cross-legged on the floor. The subject is probably a royal figure, as suggested by his attire and ornaments. However, the artist has spared the sketch of all superfluous details and only rendered it with firm, repetitive pencil strokes. As the inscription suggests, this particular sketch has been reproduced from part of a panel in cave no. 9 of the Ajanta caves.
